I had a crawl space that needed rim joist insulation, and some HVAC with bare sheet metal where it entered my house that was condensating when the A/C was used. Foam It Green closed cell foam seemed like the perfect solution: a vapor retarder, as well as being anti-microbial. This had previously been a fairly damp crawl space. but I have corrected the dampness issue by using a product called SmartVent. I still did not want to use fiberglass, so I ordered a 602 kit. This was ordered on Monday, shipped on Wednesday, and arrived on Friday. The extras were very helpful, the extra tips and the tyvek suit was a nice addition to this kit.

This rim joist project took about an afternoon of steady work to complete. I was able to apply about 2+ inches on the rim joist of my approximately 1600 sq ft crawl space, and still had product left, so I started spraying the floors of my bathrooms, and the bedrooms. I am very glad I did! The floors of the tiled bathrooms are noticeably more comfortable, and this worked so well that I ended up ordering a second 602 kit and doing more floor area, and some HVAC ducting as well.

I was very satisfied with the overall project, and felt the results were outstanding. Not only is our house more comfortable, but it's quieter too--a very welcome added bonus.

A few things I learned along the way, if you are considering a similar project:

1) Learn as much as you can prior to your project by using the on-line learning center at the FIG website. This is very useful info, and will save you a lot of time and effort once you are ready to start your project. Let me state right here, if you aren't willing to do a little basic reading and learning, a DIY foam kit is probably not for you. If you are willing to do a little self-education, you can end up with better than professional results at an outstanding price. Also, I had a few minor questions, and the folks at FIG seemed knowledgeable and willing to help; I was very satisfied with the customer service I received.

2)When using the 602 kit, be sure and change your spray nozzle every now and again, even if you don't think it needs it. They send those extra tips for a reason--especially with a difficult job like a crawl space, you just want to make sure your foam is spraying and mixing optimally. You get something like 12 tips with each 602 kit, and depending on how you use it, by the time the canisters are empty you should have used most of the provided tips.

3) When your canisters are nearly empty, and you notice only blue or nearly all blue spray coming out of the nozzle, STOP! The A canister will empty faster than the B, and in my circumstances anyway there was a few pounds of B left when A was empty. If you keep spraying only B chemical, you will end up with a blue, oily mess that will require either some kind of clean-up or more fresh foam to over spray to get it to cure. You have been warned!

Overall, I was very happy with the results of the FIG kits, and I am considering more projects that I can use it on. Thank you Foam It Green for an outstanding product! Sound deadening is a nice bonus, and the foam's anti-microbial properties made it a natural for my crawl space project.
