I designed my house to be built of ferrocement, insulated on the outside then stucco covered. I built the house myself and when the time came to have the exterior sprayed nobody was willing to do it. I had three different company reps look at it but they said that it was much too hard to reach and too hard to get any equipment close enough to. They said it would cost me a lot of money to get anyone to spray it with all of its challenges. I decided, as with everything else about my house, I would have to do it myself. Every part of my house is curved. Domes and vaults in a monolithic structure on a slope with trees growing too close to it to get close to with trucks or standard scaffolding made it a even more complicated to spray. Its highest points are around 30 feet from the ground.

From the time I found the kits and ordered them my experience has been nothing but positive. Yes, my house presents numerous challenges, and it is my first time to try spray foam but the instructions were clear and simple. Everything worked as the paperwork said it would. I had plenty of questions before the kits arrived and the friendly staff answered all of them. When the kits arrived it all made perfect sense and has worked well without any problems.

I sprayed the top of one of the domes first because the November weather was getting cooler and would soon be too cold to work. I had to use the warm days to my advantage and the sun's warming effect to get the cement surface to the proper temperature for applying the form. On the next warm day (a week later) I applied the foam to the south side of the domes by using a repelling type rope arrangement. Only the south side was warm enough for spraying.

I have been told that a cluster of domes and curves are not the usual surfaces that people spray with insulation, nor is the outside of a building but I was able to end up with a surface that will be perfect for the application of the water-proof stucco. I know that my house will be comfortable for all seasons with the closed cell, high density foam insulation and I have the satisfaction of knowing that I did it myself. And I get to keep the trees that I have so carefully worked around and preserved throughout the building process. I imagine spraying inside (without cold and wind to contend with) on flat surfaces would be much easier than my project was. I wouldn't hesitate to use spray foam kits again for any insulating job.

With all the challenges I deal with at my convoluted cottage I was pleased to work with a product so completely straight forward and easy to use. I was also pleased to find everything I needed included in the kits and had no need to make the 20 mile trip to town for a last minute tool or part.

Thank you for all your help.
