To figure out the amount of area that you need insulated, calculate the length x height of each wall and/or each cieling and add up the totals.
For example: Wall A is 15' long and 15' high, making it 300 sq ft. Wall B is 10' long and 10' high, making it 100 sq ft. The total square footage needing to be insulated would be 400 sq ft.
Most of our customers spray 1-2 inches of Foam it Green foam insulation and then add fiberglass batting to fill the rest of the stud space... Why? Well, Foam it Green insulation has a very high R-Value (The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating power) of 7 in just one inch, which is nearly double the R-value of fiberglass insulation. 1-2 inches of Foam it Green is enough to seal out air and moisture, and help prevent mold and rot, making the fiberglass batting much more effective. Just 1-2 inches can save you up to 40% on your energy bills!
Because measurements for a project are never 100% exact, it's important to account for a little more than necessary, in case of errors such as applying a little too much in some areas or miscounting of the total square footage. The recommended allowance is 20%, but the final decision it is up to you. Please pick either 0%, 10%, or 20%.
